The Nature of the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16, Psalms 119:1-5, 1 Peter 1:20-21). The attributes which make the Bible a unique book include its author, authority, accuracy, adequacy, appeal and agenda.
The Need for the Bible (1 Peter 1:23-25, James 1:18, John 5:24). The Bible addresses all the needs of the human being. It is essential for life, likeness, liberty, light and labor.
The Nourishment from the Bible (1 Peter 2:2). The Bible reveals and regulates the development God planned, the diet God provided, the disposition God prescribed and the diadem God promised.
The Neglect of the Bible (1 Corinthians 3:1). Neglect of the Bible leads to dullness, drifting, disobedience, despising, denouncing and departing from the Lord. Read the Bible every day! Let its power and truth change you.

The Bible itself is the primary source of study to learn about God and what the Bible teaches. To get to know God, we must study the Bible, His revealed Word. It is very important that Christians learn to properly study the Bible. There are sound principles that must be followed to avoid bizarre interpretations, based upon inadequate foundations. Faulty interpretations are most likely to take place when verses are taken out of context of the whole, symbolic meaning is read into verses meant to be taken literally, historical context is not considered, Scripture is not used to interpret Scripture and original language is not considered for difficult passages and concepts. Below are some basic principles which must be followed:

Upward Bible Study Groups are verse-by-verse studies, led by a prepared facilitator, following sound Bible study principles, using the Bible ITSELF as the curriculum!
DETAILS:
- Each person is to commit themselves to reading the Bible through, starting in Genesis, using a study Bible.
- Student are taught sound principles.
- The prepared facilitator leads the weekly group verse-by verse through New Testament books only, starting with a Gospel. (Students gain knowledge of the Old Testament by reading in the study Bible, which has background information, etc.)
- Participants share insights and applications, staying aware of time constraints. All are encouraged to take notes on insights.
